Powerful DIY Spot Treatments for those Annoying Breakouts
As we age, changing hormones, dry, damp or changing environments along with life’s stressors can lead to sudden breakouts. To say these are stressful times would be a major understatement.
Here are a few DIY spot treatments to help get things back on track
Aspirin – Crush an aspirin and mix with a few drops of water for a paste. Leave it on for a few minutes and then rinse off. Aspirin has salicylic acid, an ingredient often found in skin care that helps remove dirt, excess oil, and dead skin cells.
Strawberries – cut the top off the strawberries and rub a piece of strawberry on the pimple. Leave on for about 20 minutes and rinse off. Strawberries are high in anti-oxidants and, yes, salicylic acid.
Egg whites – separate yolk and white. Whisk until stiff, then apply to face. Egg whites can help soak up excess oil and remove dirt and debris from pores. Leave on skin for 30 minutes and rinse off.
Apple Cider Vinegar – dab with a cotton ball or cotton swab. Leave on for 20 minutes or all night, though I have to admit, I’m not a big fan of the smell of apple cider vinegar, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
Tea Tree Oil – Use a wet cotton swab to apply the Tea Tree Oil. It’s best not to apply directly onto skin without diluting first because it can be irritating. If your skin is really sensitive, in this case it may be best to apply on top of your moisturizer, which helps form a barrier.
TIP: A great way to help prevent clogged pores, which can result in breakouts, is to exfoliate. Our spa-quality Exfoliating Lemon Tart Whip gently sloughs off dead, sluggish skin cells while hydrating and nourishing.
Relax, breathe deep, and let the zesty lemon fragrance calm the weary soul. Skin feels instantly softer, smoother and replenished. Stay home and treat yourself to a pampering mask. It's sure to put a little radiance in your day!
